MTN GHANA HOLDS STAKEHOLDER & MEDIA FORUM IN WA

All the major media houses and communication regulatory authorities in the upper west region were brought under one roof by MTN Ghana to be updated on the activities of the telecom giant in Africa. Speaking to Nandom FM at the program, madam Georgina Fiagbenu (senior cooperate communication mgr. for MTN Ghana) highlighted that the MTN delegation, as usual, was in the UWR to engage with stakeholders (i.e. the regional administrator, regional minister, chief director, the regional regulators, the police among others and of course the media) on a number of updates including network investment, customer experience activities in the region, what MTN is doing in terms of community improvement project and the products and services that MTN is delivering to ensure that people are able to enjoy a good quality of life through the products and services it provides. MTN believes that everyone deserves the benefit of modern connected life, so all invested so far is supposed to help achieve that goal. MTN has made a commitment of USDֆ1billion from 2021 to 2022 and for this year, total investment into the network is to the tune of USDֆ220m. MTN is partnering with members of the community and businessmen to improve customer service with the rollout of 306 light retail centers (LRC). These are centers that are small or moderate in nature to provide basic services to customers. According to her, MTN’s strategic intent is to provide digital solutions for Africa’s progress through their 7 range of services including voices, data, Momo, enterprise, APL, digital and wholesale. MTN currently drives a global campaign call “doing” Basically asking everyone the question “what are you doing to drive Africa’s progress?

The company also currently has in the UWR 95 4G cites, 108 3G cites and 118 2G cites. Furthermore, MTN has in the U/W Region, 7 branches of e-cash (Bamboi, Bole, Wa, Jirapa, Nandom, and Tumu). Other updates are that MTN now has the Ayoba app which operates more like the senior brother of WhatsApp and every customer is encouraged to get it. Also, all shortcodes have now been harmonized into just three (i.e., *156♯, *175♯ , and *550♯). The shortcodes for reporting fraud are two; text to (1515 or 419). The media was encouraged to try to get in touch with their own communities to identify and project community needs for assistance.

On SIM re-registration, all customers are encouraged to take advantage of the extended deadline and do their registration. MTN is currently embarking on institutional registration in the UWR. On technology upgrade, Mr. Joseph Adai (technical office Northern Ghana) disclosed that the network footprints in the region as of now is an advantage of 14 cites, with 45 modified cites, 18 upgraded cites, and 3 new cites. He appealed to the media to support MTN in the campaign for device swap from 3G to 4G by everyone and also the fight against equipment theft cases in some cites which go to affect network connectivity.
