The Inspector General of Police (IGP) of the Ghana police service on Tuesday 12th January 2021 filed a case seeking prohibition orders at the Wa high Court against the coronation of any person purporting to be Paramount Chief of the Nandom traditional area. The prohibition orders are being sought at the instance of the IGP acting through the upper west regional crime officer as deponent to the application.
Following the demised of the Nandom Paramount Chief in august 2018 who reigned from 1985 to 2018, the Nandom Paramountcy has been under intense controversy and confusion over which gate is entitled to choose the successor. With an initial number of about 4 contestants and now reduced to three contestants from the three main Gates of the Paramountcy, the Nandom Paramountcy has been without a Chief amidst disagreements and confusion with each Gate claiming entitlement to the Nandom highest traditional office. According to deep throat sources, the matter has dragged on and at some points almost threatened the peace and stability of a hitherto very friendly, calm and peaceful Nandom municipality. The matter which was tabled at the upper west regional house of chiefs and whose initial ruling on same appears to have been flouted with impunity by one of the Gates, is once again still pending at the same regional house of chiefs but one Gate in the matter appears to be very impatient and threatening to proceed with a so-called coronation of their choice of candidate and this, according to Nandom FM sources is provoking a counter coronation ceremony with a looming bloody clash if not nipped at the bud.
It is against this back ground that according to Nandom FM sources, the Ghana Police Service is being proactive by proceeding to the Wa High Court seeking to procure a prohibition order which stop any action until the upper west regional house of chiefs resolves the matter. The suit has since been duly served on all the parties. The good people of Nandom at this point, remain as calm and patient observers while the parties from the same family battle it out even as the Nandom people bank their hopes on the security agencies to do the needful.
Speaking to Mr Gordon Nibenee Pozentaar who is the man seeking to be enskinned and out doored by one of the gates on the 23rd January 2021, he acknowledged receipt of the suit and has since directed their Lawyer to file a response. He, however, urged all to remain calm until the ruling on the 26th by the court. Meanwhile, efforts to reach the other parties to confirm whether or not they also received the suit and their comment on the matter proofed futile.
