72 Illegal Immigrants Arrested At Kandiga Check Point In The Uer

Report reaching Nandom FM online indicates that as many as 72 foreigners were on Sunday dawn arrested by immigration officials for illegally trying to enter Ghana through an unapproved route. The illegal immigrants who were said to be migrating from Niger, were in three sprinter buses and upon interrogation claimed to have been heading to Techiman and Sunyani in the Buno East and Buno regions respectively.

According to ASI Bangniyel John Baptist (the Officer in charge), his men had intel around 1am that foreigners were trooping into the country through unapproved routes. They were swiftly pursued and arrested at the KANDIGA checkpoint between Navorongo and Bolgatanga in the Upper East region. The illegal immigrants attempted to bribe the officers on duty with GHc300.00 to allow them to pass by they vehemently rejected the offer and got them arrested. They have since been returned to the Wawale Sector office of the Ghana Immigration Service where they are being prepared for repatriation.

Ghana borders remain closed to foreigners until next year according to the Ghana government.

This is not the first-time foreigners are trying to illegally enter Ghana even though Ghana borders remain closed. Even though the Ghana immigration Service has beefed up operations at borders, the numerous unapproved routes and entry points remain a big challenge.
